Product Description The Abigail Payne Band came together in New York in June 2004. Though the idea was conceived long before by singer/songwriter Abigail Payne, it took some time to find the right musicians to create a very specific sound on this personal project. She first began working with guitarist Oren Neiman in 2001, performing jazz standards in a duo setting and in various ensembles. After a debut performance of her original songs at the Bitter End in February 2004, Koby Hayon joined the group as bassist. The band sampled New York drummers before finding that the missing piece was the then nineteen-year old Kenny Shaw. The band became complete in June 2004, and immediately began recording and playing throughout New York City as well as touring in Canada and Western New York. With Payne's affinity for such emotional lyricists as Cole Porter, accompanied by her innate rock sensibility and the band's expansive jazz experience, the sound of their new release, 'About a Cake' is at once sophisticated and raw. Review "I have been waiting for something new and different, and this is it. This cd is a gift." --Amanda Lucas"Abigail Payne's voice rings with authenticity. She has a gorgeous sound..." --Kate McGarry, jazz vocalist About the Artist The Abigail Payne Band came together in New York in June 2004.
